yesterday afternoon and late into the creepy night

When Zach got back from running errands in town, an exhausting trip but he did it and was back by 1pm or so.  We grabbed the windvane paddle that I had removed and loaded up the generator, tools, paint, sander, grinder and Hooch and over to the beach we went.  There is nothing worse than sanding bare fiberglass.  We both coated ourselves with baby powder and started sanding.  Baby powder is supposed to keep you from itching, it might help and though I won’t say it works I still do it every time.  Why not, maybe it would be worse without it!
Hooch spent his time on the beach dragging conch shells out of the water.  By the time we left he had a whole little pile he dragged in.
We painted the outside of the dingy.  We had planned to leave the place where the keel is going bare, but . . . ooops!  I guess we will sand that off later!  The water felt so good when we were done, it soothes the stingy, ichtiness that covered out skin and gave us a little reprieve from the mosquitos.  Since we’ve been in Grenada the mosquitos haven’t been bad, the first couple months we were here we didn’t notice them at all.  Compared to Water Island they are tiny little things that barely leave a bump when they bite you.  They have gotten steadily worse in the last month, as we have gotten more and more rain, today they were huge bird like creatures reminding me of what it’s like on WI where we will be again soon.
Our rum and OJ tasted great after an afternoon of fiberglass dust!  Dinner was callalou soup,  roasted Jerked pork with pumpkin and potatoes.  While the food was  roasting I simmered my hot sauce, added salt, honey and a little more vinager and the few more hot peppers we found.   Reprocessed it to make it even smoother and the result was great and even hotter than before I cooked it – delicious!  The hot peppers are great here, but lately they have been very hard to find.  I wish I would have made more hot sauce when they were plentifull!!!
It’s three-thirty in the morning right now and I can’t sleep.  We watched the Big Lebowski earlier with dinner and I was in bed before Zach even finished dishes.  Usually there’s nothing better than crawling into bed after a long day.  The tiny slivers of glass embedded everywhere in my skin are irritated by the sheets, the blanket and every time I move I grimace.  Eventually I did fall asleep, only to be woken up by something crawling up my leg!!!  I spasmed and slapped and just as I laid back down, it crawled across my face!!!  Ahhhhh!  Managed to slap Zach in the face in the process and then had to turn on the light and shake out the bed.  I’m still disgusted and now the battle with roaches begins again or maybe I should say continues on a whole different level!!!  We beat them once before and had a whole year of blissful roach-free living, until Zach took a job on a boat infested and home they came in his tool bag.  We have been battling them ever since.  Lately they haven’t been bad I only see one maybe once a week when I get up in the middle of the night, but after tonight I’m determined to kill! EAIACH!  Creeped out and itchy does not do wonders for sleep!  The dude minds, man.
Just started pouring rain so I’m off to catch it!  Made a great rain catch in the new awning, unfortunetly I put it in the middle and the rain pools off to the side so it has to be lifted and guided into the tube, still better than having to scrub the deck before we can catch it.  We catch a lot more rain now, but one of these days I have to fix it!
